BECKELY -

Eighteen people are wanted or behind bars after police execute a warrant sweep in the city of Beckley.

Most of these suspects are facing drug charges and you will never believe why officials are saying more WOMEN are getting into this crime.

Tears roll down Sherry Collins face as she learns the drug charges presented against her. Police said Collins is one of 14 people wanted in a warrant round up on Friday.

Clennel Cobb had a much different reaction.  He seemed unable to even keep his eyes open during court. Both arrested for a role in the drug trade. The Beckley Police Department is calling this round up a step in the right direction in the war against drugs.

"It allows us to get those people out of the community and hopefully some relief for those areas that are dealing with the drug problems,"Tim Deems, Beckley Police Chief said.

Though this is considered a victory for the city of Beckley, the pill epidemic is still hitting the streets and Chief Deems tells 59 News that epidemic is now crossing the gender lines.

"We are seeing a trend where more women are having drug issues and a lot of that I think is because the increase we've seen in the pill usage in our area. It seems to be effecting women as well as men," Chief Deems said.

Collins is one of four females on the wanted list and Chief Deems said this is a trend he foresees on the increase the pill epidemic keeps growing in southern West Virginia.
