WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) -
Three people are dead and a fourth is hospitalized following two wrecks within a day in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle.
Ohio County Sheriff Pat Butler tells media outlets that a mother and daughter from Elizabeth, Pa., were killed early Monday morning in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 70. Their vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes when it was hit by a tractor-trailer. Their names haven't been released.
Butler says Stephanie Stahl of Wheeling died Sunday from injuries suffered in an early morning crash on McCutcheon Road. Nicole Gray of Wheeling suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized.
The women's vehicle was hit by a vehicle driven by 28-year-old John Hatfield. He is being held at the Northern Regional Jail on driving under the influence charges.
