MARMET -
In just two days, an online petition calling for West Virginia to secede from the United States had garnered more than 3,300 signatures.
The petition, filed on the White House's web site was one of 47 filed in different states.
The petition has until December 11 to raise 25,000 signatures. Even with the signatures, secession would take much more than an online petition. James Kesterson claimed to have started one of the petitions in West Virginia. He calls it a symbolic gesture protesting a government run amok.
13News posed the question to folks in Marmet and East Bank. The reactions were mixed.
"I would understand if West Virginia would," said Marmet resident Johnny Deal.
"I definitely would not like to see that happen," said Alice Smith of Winifrede.
