Study: Inland port in W.Va. panhandle not feasible

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -

A proposed inland port in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle isn't feasible.

That's the conclusion of a study conducted by a team of companies for the Eastern Panhandle Inland Port Coalition.

The study says there are three competing facilities within a 75-mile radius of the proposed Berkeley County inland port. Also, an anchor tenant hasn't been identified or secured.

The Journal (http://bit.ly/W6QCWB ) reports that the study's findings were represented to the coalition on Tuesday.

Instead of an inland port, the study recommends creating a center for the advancement of using natural gas in transportation. That idea piqued the interest of coalition members. They plan to hold a special meeting Nov. 27 to decide what steps to take next.
