Raleigh County Sheriff’s Deputies Make Christmas Possible For Underpriviledged Kids

Posted: Updated:

Raleigh County sheriff's deputies kicked off their 'shop with a cop' campaign Wednesday.

The fundraiser provides more than 100 under-privileged kids in the county a chance to go on a $100 shopping spree with a deputy.

This year, Cpl. J. Redden is aiming to raise more than $10,000 for the kids.

"The community sees us out there with the kids helping out the community. The kids absolutely love being able to shop with a cop. I really think it feels good to take a child that would otherwise have nothing and provide them that opportunity," said Redden.

Redden is also warning people of a scam involving 'shop with a cop.' He said people posing as law enforcement officers are going door to door soliciting money.

He said deputies are not going door to door this year.  They are accepting donations in person or by mail at Post Office Box 832, Beckley, West Virginia, 35802.
