A school bus inspector from Greenbrier County has been named the nation's best for the second straight year.
Jack Defibaugh won the title last year and again this year from the National Association for Pupil Transportation. He was honored Wednesday by the West Virginia Board of Education.
The national competition in Rocky Mount, N.C., included a 4-day skills and training competition.
Testing included written exams, diagnostic troubleshooting, vehicle inspections and training workshops.
State Superintendent of Schools Jorea Marple says bus operators in West Virginia face more difficult road conditions than drivers in most other states. That demands more of technicians and inspectors who must make sure the vehicles carrying children are safe.
West Virginia school buses travel more than 41 million miles a year, transporting about 230,000 students each day.
