PRINCETON -

A fight turns deadly in Princeton, but the shooter is not behind bars for the killing.

On Wednesday night a fight broke out in Princeton at the Bee St. home of 30-year-old Eddie Harmon.  Harmon was fighting with 34-year-old Michael Cardwell.

"They knew each other and that verbal alteration turned physical and at some point a gun was produced and there was a struggle for the gun and Mr. Cardwell was shot and died," Det. John Howell Princeton Police Dept. said.

Det. Howell said the fight was over family matters and said Cardwell's and Harmon's parents knew each other.

Donald Mann was sitting in his living when he heard the sound of gunfire. When he came out, he found a man dying right next door to his house.

"Well that's what it sounded like, it sounded like someone slamming a tail gate shut, I was sitting right here in the den," said Mann.

Mann said he had lived in the neighborhood for 48 years and raised two children there. He said he was friendly with Harmon and his wife.  He said is was a shock to learn Harmon pulled the trigger.

"He was quiet and every time he went to see me or my daughter or my wife he was wave he was just a friendly guy," Mann said.

Mann said he didn't know the victim Michael Cardwell, but Police said Cardwell was a father of two and he did have a relationship with Harmon.

Cardwell died at an area hospital and Harmon was taken away in handcuffs on Wednesday night.  He was later released.  Police said no charges have been field, but the case is in the hands of prosecuting attorney Scott Ash.

Police said the investigation is still on going and 59 News is working to get you the latest.
