WV BOE to reveal response to school system audit

CHARLESTON, W. Va. (AP) -

West Virginia's Board of Education is set to reveal and discuss its response to a wide-ranging audit that criticized the school system as being too bogged down in state-level bureaucracy.

The $750,000 review includes more than 100 recommendations aimed at refocusing resources on student achievement while saving an estimated $70 million a year.

Board members have been drafting the board's response for months. It will release that on Wednesday before voting on proposals to send to the Legislature.

Meantime, the board fired schools superintendent Jorea Marple last week but said Tuesday it would reconsider the action because of concerns the vote violated the law. The board will take up that issue and choose her successor next week.
