Traveling When the Nations Roads are Packed

MERCER COUNTY, WV -

Thousands of people are hitting the road for this Thanksgiving holiday.

"About twenty four hours. We're from a little town called Fonthill, just outside of Ontario. And you're going where? We are going to Fort Lauderdale," said Libby Girard of Fonthill, Ontario.

Drivers near and far know a thing or two about the roads, and the do's and don'ts. Those out on the road offer their advice on what to look out for on the road. Deer, cops, and traffic top the list.

"Don't get too fast, police are everywhere. They're in for us. They're doing a good job," said Earl Snedegar of Etowah, North Carolina.

"Yes a lot of them today. But you just do the speed limit, they don't bother you. A lot of dead deer along the way too."

Some say it's smooth sailing ahead.

"Pretty smooth so far, not a lot of jams or anything. Went through the toll booths pretty easily. As long as you have your two dollars ready, it goes smooth," said Roger Roseum of Chesterland, Ohio.

One Mercer County school basketball team is looking to capitalize on the high volume of travelers this season by offering baked goods at the Visitors Center in Princeton.

"It looks like we've got a bunch of people from different states. Traveling and coming to see families and stuff.we have brownies, pumpkin cake, donuts, assorted chips and stuff, waters and coffee," said Josiah Janning of Mercer County.
