As Wal-Mart workers stood guard Thursday night, caffeinated customers circled the den.
At 8p.m., shoppers pounced on their prize as employees unwrapped $1000 flat screens selling for $600, Monster Dolls at half prices, and $5 blenders.
For Charles Rodgers, it is a Black Friday family tradition, a head start on holiday shopping.
"It's something you don't see everyday. Just a once in a year tradition," said Rodgers.
But while some showed up for the bargains, others came for the thrill of the fight. "I like to watch the women come out and fight, tear up the packages," added Rodgers.
"It's just that excitement and looking for that bargain I guess," said shopper Rodney Hamilton.
Between 8p.m. Thanksgiving Day and noon Friday, Wal-mart sold 1.8 million towels, 1.3 million televisions, and 1.3 million dollars nationwide.
The mega-retailer also said they processed nearly 10 million register transactions at a record 5,000 items per second between those hours.
