West Virginia lawmakers are expecting details now that the state Board of Education has endorsed a wide-ranging audit of the state's public school system.

Board President Wade Linger is to address a Tuesday meeting of a House-Senate subcommittee assigned to education issues.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin commissioned the audit, which was published in January. The board voted last week to embrace nearly all of its dozens of findings addressing spending, policy and organization.

The audit concluded that West Virginia has 1 of the country's most inflexible and bureaucrat-heavy school systems. It also cited poor rankings for student performance despite the billions spent on education each year.

Lawmakers may also ask about the board's vote this month to fire Jorea Marple as state schools superintendent.
