FAYETTE COUNTY -
A WILD home invasion! A man comes face-to-face with an armed suspect in his OWN home. It was the sound of his dogs barking that let a 23-year old man know something was wrong inside of his Edmond home.
He was home alone on Monday evening and quickly jumped to his feet to check the house. The man came face-to-face with another man in a black ski mask, ARMED WITH a gun!
"You just have no idea what is happening and you have a suddenly looking into the face of someone you've never seen before," Sgt. . Glenn Chapman with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said.
MORE TENSE MOMENTS followed, as the suspect threatened the victim with the gun. He instructed the 23-year to go in an upstairs bathroom and than pushed a cabinet blocking the victim's escape.
Deputies said the suspect entered through an unlocked door. And in this quiet, rural neighborhood, neighbors said leaving doors UNLOCKED has never been an issue.
"It is quiet and it is safe. We don't lock our doors at night," neighbor, Brian Smith said.
59 News Crews broke the news to Smith about the home invasion that happened just across the street. He has lived in the neighborhood for 5 years with his wife. They just welcomed a 4 month old son into the family and now this crime has Smith thinking about safety.
"I am just SHOCKED! I have never heard of anything like this in the neighborhood for as long as I lived here," Smith said.
