West Virginia to Receive FEMA Assistance for Damage from Hurricane Sandy

WEST VIRGINIA -

According to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin (D-W.Va.), Funds are now available for local communities that have been hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.

Tomblin announced on Tuesday, Nov. 27 that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) granted his request for a federal disaster declaration.

"We are extremely appreciative of this assistance FEMA will be providing. Many towns across West Virginia experienced extensive damage, and these federal funds will go a long way in helping these communities recover," said Governor Tomblin.

Fayette, Pocahontas, Raleigh, and Wyoming counties are all included in the declaration.  The declaration provides public assistance to towns, cities, counties, agencies, and public service districts with ongoing recovery and repair efforts resulting from Hurricane Sandy.  The facilities had to have been damaged between Oct. 29 and Nov. 8 to be eligible.

The release from the Governor's office did not include any information on assistance for homeowners at this time.

People who suffered damage from the June 29 derecho still have until Dec. 21 to file a claim for help from FEMA.
