Amanda Smith Named WVIAC Player of the Week

Concord University women's basketball standout Amanda Smith has been named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Monday by the league office.

Smith, a junior guard from Princeton, W.Va., led Concord to a 2-0 record last week week with wins over West Virginia Tech and Pitt-Johnstown.

For the week, Smith averaged 25.9 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, 1.5 steals per game and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 59 percent (23-for-39) from the floor. Smith scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds in CU's overtime victory WV Tech. She followed that performance up with a 21-point, eight-rebound and two steal effort in the Mountain Lions' WVIAC victory vs. Pitt-Johnstown.

Smith's 30-point output is tied for the top single-game scoring performance of the year in the WVIAC so far this season.

On the season, Smith is shooting 55.6 percent from the field and averaging 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game.

Concord is 2-2 this season and 1-0 in the WVIAC. The Mountain Lions play at Alderson-Broaddus Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
