Starckey Named Football First Team All-Mid-South Conference West Division

BLUEFIELD, Va. -

Bluefield College linebacker Tarrell Starckey has been named as a First-Team All Mid-South Conference West Division performer.

Thirty-two players earned first-team all-conference honors and 32 were selected honorable mention as voted on by the MSC coaches. Starckey was chosen as one of four linebackers on the first team.

The freshman from Richmond, Va., was the MSC leading tackler at 10.9 tackles per game. Starckey led the Rams in solo (60) and assisted (60) tackles along with tackles for loss (11) and tackles for loss yards (60.5), sacks (2), fumble recovery's (2), pass breakups (4), and returned a fumble 81 yards for the Rams longest touchdown return of the season. In addition to that fumble return the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Starckey returned one of his two interceptions for 20 yards as he played all 11 games for Bluefield in their first season since 1941.

    The West Virginia Open Championship is in just two weeks and this year it will be at Glade Springs. Thursday at media day the pros tee'd it up with amateurs in a round that was less about practice and more about having fun.Tee shots from the knees, searching for balls in the woods and the celebratory fist pump for a sinked putt are all things that are totally acceptable during media day."This is just a great day for me, I just come out to have fun.     Each Tuesday we get to honor a special team as our Honda Sports Team of the Week!This week we chose a team from the Ronceverte Fairlea Little League.The 9 and 10 year old softball all-stars won the West Virginia Little League District 4 championship on June 30th. Soon, they will head to the state tournament in Hedgesville. These girls should be very proud of their accomplishments and for being named our Honda Sports Team of the Week!
