Concord University head football coach Garin Justice announced Wednesday that Steve Adams has been promoted to Co-Defensive Coordinator for the Mountain Lions.

Adams, who held the title of Defensive Backs Coach and Recruiting Coordinator in 2012, helped coach a defense that ranked 14th in the nation in total defense, 11th in scoring defense and seventh in passing defense last season.

Under his tutelage in 2012, all four of Concord's starting defensive backs (Riyahd Richardson, Kevin Elliott, Davon Marion and Nate Pollard) earned All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors. In addition to being the seventh-best pass defense in the country, CU also ranked first in the WVIAC in pass defense.

In his time with the Mountain Lions, Adams' defensive backs have earned seven all-conference awards and two all-region honors.

A native of Greenville, Ky., Adams came to Concord in 2011 after stops at Purdue University (quality control coach and interim recruiting coordinator), the University of Louisville (director of football operations) and Western Kentucky (defensive backs coach / graduate assistant). Prior to starting his coaching career, Adams was a three-year letterwinner at safety for Western Kentucky.

Concord finished the 2012 season with a 7-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the WVIAC. The Mountain Lions have recorded four consecutive winning seasons.
