Deer muzzleloader season is starting a week earlier than usual.

The Division of Natural Resources says the season runs from Monday through Saturday. But Wildlife Resources section chief Curtis Taylor says Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming counties will not have a muzzleloader season.

He says hunters can take only one antlered deer apiece in the counties with a closed doe deer season or counties that required permits for antlerless deer.

Hunters who didn't have to apply for a permit in counties with a one-deer bag limit on does can take either a buck or doe during muzzleloader season. That's also the case for counties with an antlerless season bag limit of 3 deer.
