CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

West Virginia state and local government agencies are getting web-based briefings on federal grants they may receive as a result of damage from Superstorm Sandy.

Some private, nonprofit organizations also have been invited to participate in the webinar briefings starting Tuesday. The briefings are being conducted by the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, assisted by FEMA.

After the briefings, the state and FEMA will make appointments with local officials to kick off their public assistance programs. Funds for projects that qualify for federal funding will be obligated when the projects are approved.
