WVSOM Seeks Gold Star For Success

LEWISBURG -

The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine is one step closer to being awarded what they see as another gold star.

The medical school is seeking a regional accreditation status from the Higher Learning Commission that is completely voluntary on their part.

So why do it?

They said it's a way to be rewarded for all their hard work and success.

Vice President for Administration James Nemitz said, "HLC accredits all the other colleges and universities in West Virginia and we can say we are part of this accreditation so it's something that is a high standard that says something to our faculty, our staff, our students."

The HLC will come back to the Lewisburg school in 2014 for another round of tours and reviews before they receive the accreditation.

WVSOM has been accredited by the American Osteopathic Association since it was opened in the 1970's.
