A report by the state medical examiner prompts further investigation into the death of a student on the campus of Mountain State University on Thursday.

Police now say they are NOT ruling out the possibility of a suspicious death.

The body was found at a dorm on campus in the morning hours of Wednesday, Dec. 5.

Mountain State University released the identity of the student in a press release on Wednesday. MSU representatives said it was Claudeo Frederic Mays.

In a full statement it says:

"I am writing with great regrets to inform you that one of our students, Claudeo Frederic Mays, died last night in his room in Hogan Hall. Claudeo was a senior Social Work major and a Resident Advisor. Claudeo was an officer in the Student Government Association as well as an organizer for Beckley Unplugged, which raised funds for the men's shelter. The Raleigh County Medical Examiner is investigating the death, and will issue a report on the cause when that investigation is done. The Beckley Police Department has notified his family members.A psychologist will be available for grief counseling in the JWE Board Room from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 6 and from 9 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10. Our most sincere sympathy is extended to all of Claudeo's family and friends. I will inform you of more details as they become available,"----Richard E. Sours, Interim President.
