BLUEFIELD, Va. (AP) -
Starting next year, Bluefield College will be offering master's degrees in education.
The Christian liberal arts institution announced that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges approved the master's offering this week.
Bluefield President David Olive calls the development a "tremendous step" for the college as a school of higher education. The master's degree expansion comes nearly 40 years after Bluefield earned accreditation to offer bachelor's degrees.
Bluefield College's School of Education offers undergraduate programs for teacher licensure in elementary education and for grades up to 12.
