Several Greenbrier County residents are now trained as a community emergency response team.

The Greenbrier County Homeland Security and Emergency Management said on Dec. 9, 2012 several citizens from the Rainelle, Rupert and Meadow Bridge area completed the program call "CERT" (Community Emergency Response Team) training.

This program is approximately 16 hours and the participants learn some basics on emergency preparedness.

The topics that were cover were basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

The information and skills learned will be able to help the participants as well as help the community during disaster and non-disaster related events.

GCHSEM said, "We are proud of the efforts that these people are taking to be better prepared."
