BLUEFIELD, Va. -
Sophomore
midfielder Pip Pattison, junior
defender Missy Baines, and freshman forward Enajah Winbush were named
to the Mid-South Conference All-Conference teams. Pattison was picked on
the first team, while Baines and Winbush earned honorable mention
honors.
Pattison,
Baines, and Winbush are the program's first all-MSC selections since
Bluefield joined the Mid-South Conference this summer following six
years in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
Pattison
became the programs only First Team All-Conference selection. The trio
of sections marks just the second time Bluefield has had more than
two all-conference honorees. Last season the Rams failed to place
anyone on the All-AAC teams.
Pattison
and Winbush helped lead a Ram attack that posted 40 goals in 2012, the
most in the team's history, and scored more than twice as many as
it scored last year.
Radford,
Va., native Pip Pattison started 18 matches for the Red, White &
Blue and finished the campaign as the squad's leading scorer. The
5-foot-6
midfielder's 15 goals were the most in a single-season for the Rams,
breaking her own record of seven set last season, and her 33 points were
the most for any Ram.
Woodbrige,
Va., native Enajah Winbush started 17 matches and finished the season
as the team's second leading scorer. The 5-foot-7 rookie forward's
seven goals were the most for a BC true-freshman, and Winbush's three
game winning goals tied Pattison for the most on the season.
Smyrna,
Del., native Missy Baines contributed five points on two goals and an
assist as she led the best defense in program history. She started all
20 games and tied her career high with two goals. With the 5-foot-6
versatile Baines leading the back line the Rams allowed the fewest goals
in program history (39) and set the mark with five shutouts including
three in their last four regular season games.
That string included a 4-0 win over Shawnee State (Ohio) and a 2-0
victory over Rio Grande (Ohio) in back-to-back Mid-South Conference
games that helped the Rams finish a program best sixth, while winning
four conference games for the first time and winning
their first conference game since 2009 when the Rams won their first
conference game in program history.
The
honors are latest for the Rams following its most successful season to
date. Bluefield posted a 9-10-1 overall record and advanced to the
quarterfinals
of the Mid-South Conference Tournament where it was eliminated by
Campbellsville and hosted the quarterfinals of the NCCAA Mid-East
Regional Tournament where they were eliminated in their first NCCAA
Tournament appearance by Union (Tenn.) and were the third
most improved win-loss team in the NAIA as they improved from a 2-16-1
mark a year ago.
