Authorities to discuss 2-state sex offender sweep

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -

Federal and state authorities are preparing to disclose results of a sweep to ensure that sex offenders in West Virginia and Kentucky are complying with registration laws.

The multi-county sex offender registry compliance sweep is the topic of a news conference set for Monday afternoon at the Sydney L. Christie Federal Building in Huntington.

The news conference will be led by U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin, U.S. Marshals John Foster of West Virginia and Loren Carl of Kentucky, and West Virginia State Police Superintendent Col. Jay Smithers. Other state and local law enforcement officials also are expected to attend.
