Portrait honors retiring W.Va. court justice

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -

Kanawha County is unveiling a portrait of retiring Supreme Court Justice Thomas McHugh.

The portrait set to be unveiled during a Thursday ceremony in Charleston commemorates his tenure as a circuit judge there from 1974 through 1980.

McHugh is retiring from the Supreme Court on Dec. 31 after more than 20 years of total service as a justice and 26 as a judicial officer.

He is a 1958 graduate of West Virginia University and a 1964 graduate of the WVU College of Law. McHugh was born in Charleston on March 26, 1936.
