HUNTINGTON -
The investigation continues into a shooting over the weekend involving a police officer.
Huntington Police Chief Skip Holbrook says Joshua Emerson was shot and killed around 1 a.m. Saturday morning when he threatened a police officer with a knife.
The incident happened just outside the Special Metals plant on Dec. 22. Chief Holbrook says Emerson got into a confrontation with a security guard, then turned on the officer when he tried to intervene.
Neighbors say it's another example of why everyone should be on high alert.
Mary Michki said, "Be prepared and protect yourself and be aware of your surroundings. Just like the school shootings, you just have to be aware. Nobody wants to watch their back all their lives but at the same time you just have to be aware, alert and be ready."
Emerson was 32 years old and from Hamilton, Alabama.
Investigators are still trying to figure out why he threatened the officer.
