Against All Odds, An Oak Hill Church still has a Merry Christmas

FAYETTE COUNTY -

Even with all odds thrown against them, Calvary Baptist Church continued to have a great Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, shortly after their Christmas Eve Church Service, someone attempted to break-in to Calvary Baptist Church. Not once, but twice, when finally the alarm system was set off and they fled. Pastor Mark Wood is praying for the criminal.

"It is sad that people resort to those kinds of things. The best thing we can do is pray for people in that condition that they feel that's the last resort they have. Of course any need some one has, we always do the best we can to provide that for them," said Wood.

A Calvary Baptist Church member and volunteer explains why someone might steal on Christmas Eve.

"Somebody is desperate. Somebody doesn't have respect for the church. Some people take advantage when they think there might be something they might get to," said church member Judy Feazell.

Even though thieves tried to steal on Christmas Eve, they still could dampen this church's spirit. They are happy to serve the community and give this Christmas dinner. For Feazell, their time, money and efforts today is about much more than just feeding people.

"No, its not just about the food. It's one way we can give back and give to people and share to people. Christmas can be a very lonely day, for a lot of people," she said.

When there is a need in the community, Calvary Baptist is more than happy to help.

I enjoy getting together with my friends here at Calvary and serving the people who come in . There is a need for it, not that people are poor, but it's hard to cook a big meal for yourself on Christmas day. It's a fellowship dinner," said Feazell.
