Diagnosing Appendicitis

Posted: Updated:

How children are diagnosed with Appendicitis could depend on where they are treated.

A new study in the Journal Pediatrics found kids suspected of having Appendicitis were more likely to receive C.T. scans at a general hospital, while kids who went to a private facility like Saint Louis Children's Hospital were more likely to get an ultrasound scan.

Experts are looking at ways to reduce the use of C.T. scans because studies suggest radiation from scans can increase cancer risk.
