MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -

A West Virginia University professor is participating in two projects that will span continents to study new media.

Associate English professor and Center for Literary Computing director Sandy Baldwin is the principal investigator on a project working with teams from India and Great Britain to study online multi-player video gaming. The research is being funded through a $76,000 grant from the British Council, the equivalent of America's National Endowment for the Humanities.

Baldwin said the games have a staggering presence in the everyday lives of millions of people worldwide and could provide useful cultural insights and behavioral data.

Baldwin also is participating in a project involving researchers in Norway, Temple University and the University of Minnesota to study collaborative creativity in new media.
