BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - Some West Virginia health care providers say they're seeing patients being infected with the flu earlier than usual.
The Register-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/WPLiZD ) that at Raleigh General Hospital there have been 75 positive flu screens since Dec. 20 and there were another 25 before that.
At Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital there were 20 confirmed cases of the flue in the past week.
Health care providers say they typically don't see this many cases until January.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting a flu vaccine as well as taking preventative measures to stop the spread of germs. If symptoms are mild, the CDC recommends staying home for at least 24 hours after a fever is gone.
