RALEIGH COUNTY -
There's tons of skiers and snowboarders hitting the slopes now, but that was apparently not the case a while ago.
59 News Reporter Jessie Gavin caught up with some snow enthusiasts, And they say Winterplace Ski Resort lost power for a few days, therefore hindering their winter wonderland experience.
"I'm pretty irritated, yesterday we stayed up there most of the day and they kept saying an hour, two hours, an hour, two hours. And then it never opened. And then so far this morning they said the same thing but they said it'd be open at 12:30. So, hopefully it is," said an avid snowboarder from Raleigh, North Carolina Brandon Nosbitt.
Those hoping to enjoy the mountains of Flat Top vented their frustrations today. Winterplace without power meant snow couldn't be made and lights weren't on. Many angry customers stopped into local gas station Marathon in Ghent.
The Manager explained why those who rented condos for the weekend were so mad.
"Oh, its been crazy, it's been a madhouse, everyone's upset because the power has been out for two days and they haven't been able to ski, and they have rented condos and they're really upset because they're not getting their money back and they're leaving," said Marathon Manager Beverly Farrish.
59 News today reached out to Winterplace to try to figure out why they lost power and what they were doing to keep customers happy, but they declined the opportunity to comment. Another avid snowboarder, also from Raleigh, explained that even with the wait, people are still happy.
"We were at Winterplace and the power was out for a couple of hours but I got there about 45 minutes or so. Now it's back on, and they're currently starting the lifts. In general it seems like everybody's in good spirits as far as being out there and waiting for the power to come back on. We snowboard a lot so we try to come out here as much as possible because it's closer and we go to Snowshoe as well," said Edwin Rios.
A little girl on her way to Winterplace tells 59 News why she likes tubing the best.
"I used to ski but once I ran into a fence, I don't like to do it anymore. I wanted to come up here because I like to snowtube, it's really fun to do," said Alyssa Nosbitt.
If hitting the slopes is your thing, have no fear, everything is back to usual. Winterplace regained power around 12:30 p.m. today.
