GILES COUNTY, VA -
One school district in Giles County, Virginia is closed Wednesday after talks on the Internet got back to law enforcement and school officials linking one of their towns to the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting and saying they could be the next town targeted.
Here's where all this speculation started.
A map from the latest Batman movie had an attack area labeled Sandy Hook.
The actual image of Sandy Hook in Connecticut from Google images is similar.
Apparently target spot two is a place called Narrows.
And according to the maps, they match up pretty well again.
After being informed of all this, Giles County law enforcement and the school system decided to close school Wednesday to inform all the teachers and come up with a game plan.
The thing to remember here is there is no reason to panic.
Giles County Schools Superintendent Terry Arbogast said, "In this there were no specific threats made to any of our schools. Again what we have taken today is precautionary measures to try and get everyone on the same page in our schools and in the community."
Wednesday at the administration office they were busy stamping and addressing letters home to all families letting them know exactly what is going on.
And this is something that people of all ages here are starting to think about.
Austin Perkins from Perrysburg, VA said, "My cousins go to Narrows and I don't want them to get shot. They said they might be home schooled now by their mom."
Joyce Fox from Narrows, VA said, "I don't think it's a threat, I just think they're going out for safety because of Connecticut."
But others are not convinced.
Jared Sergeant from Pembroke, VA said, "Overreaction. It's pretty much for one Narrows is the slums in the Batman movie, it's not saying any town in particular. Plus I'm pretty sure there's more than one Narrows than Giles County in the United States."
And he's right, there are several other Narrows out there.
But it's the map that has people online talking.
Giles County schools will be back in session Thursday and will resume class as normal.
School officials say they will continue to have security at every school in the county and keep an extra eye out for suspicious activity.
