New Year's Day is gone, but DUI patrols continue

Posted: Updated:

The West Virginia State police aren't taking a break from watching for drunk drivers just because the holidays are gone.

First Sergeant J.R. Pauley with the Princeton Detachment announced that they will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, Jan. 4 starting at 8 p.m. and continuing until 2 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5.  The checkpoint will be set up on Oakvale Road in Mercer County.

Pauley said that state troopers are looking to increase public awareness about drinking and driving and to keep people from getting behind the wheel when they have been out drinking.
