MONROE COUNTY, WV -

After a house fire destroyed a home and almost killed two inside, 59 News met up with the woman who rescued them. Even five days later, smoke could still be seen and the smell of burning wood is in the air.

Lawrence described the coincidence turned miracle when she took the wrong turn home from work.

"On my way home from work, I missed my turn and continued going straight. I was running an hour behind and didn't know why when I finally realized I missed my turn. I looked ahead of me to look for somewhere to turn around. I saw smoke coming up," she said.

Lawrence immediately pulled in the drive way, called 911 and ran up to see if anyone was home.  When she found that two people inside, she was able to coax them into finally coming outside of the burning home.

Savannah says they both had minor smoke inhalation and scratchy red eyes at the time. She explained what caused her to stop what she was doing and help.

"I had a gut feeling, I just had one of those gut feelings where you just need to stop. I put on my flashers and got out and it was too much smoke to be something else but I was just wanting to make sure that everyone was okay."

Savannah believes she was destined to be on that road that day.

"I do not think of myself as a hero, I think I was meant to be on that road at that time, I think that things happen for a reason and my reason to be on that road that day was to see that house on fire."
