The Democrats' razor-thin majority in West Virginia's House of Delegates is being put to the test.

Both the House and state Senate gavels in Wednesday to receive results from the November election. Voters gave Republicans 11 more seats in the House. That increased their ranks to 46 of 100 delegates.

The House will then elect a speaker for the next two years, while the 34-member Senate will choose its president. The GOP picked up three Senate seats. Democrats still hold 25.

Speaker Rick Thompson is seeking a fourth term as the House's top leader. Fellow Democrats unanimously nominated him during a closed-door meeting last month.

But only a few have to change their minds for a Republican upset.

President Jeff Kessler is also seeking a new term as Senate leader.
