Firefighters Believe Wood Burning Stove Caused Fire In Rainelle

RAINELLE -

A fire leaving one Greenbrier County family homeless is believed to be caused by a wood burning stove.

Rainelle Volunteer Fire Department Chief Shawn Wolford says the fire spread to the chimney of the home and left the entire second story with severe heat and smoke damage.

The first floor also suffered water damage.

The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

No one was injured in the fire but neighbors say it looked very damaging.

Paul Gibson said, "You could see flames when the men were fighting it, you could see in the upstairs window it was just flames completely. So without even being in it I would say there's a lot of damage there."

Rainelle, Quinwood and Meadow Bridge Fire Departments were fighting the flames for about three hours.

They will accept donations for the family who lost most of their belongings in the fire.
