The Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary
recently donated another $100,000 to the Cabell Huntington Hospital
Foundation to support the Hoops Family Children's Hospital. Since
2008, the group has donated more than $1.3 million for the children's hospital
project.
The
auxiliary's initial pledge of $1 million toward the construction of the
children's hospital was intended to take 10 years to fulfill. Instead, the
auxiliary exceeded that pledge goal in less than half the time. Through
dedication and work to conduct raffle sales, proceeds from the volunteer-supported
Cabell Huntington Hospital gift shop and other
fundraisers, the auxiliary has been able to raise money at a much quicker pace
than expected.
"It
is hard to put into words what it means to have a children's hospital here in Huntington," Marian Tissenbaum,
president of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary, said in a news release.
"I am thrilled to be a part of this, and our volunteers are equally as proud to
have a hand in this project."
The
Hoops Family Children's Hospital project will reconstruct the hospital's
Pediatrics Unit and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in addition to building a new
entrance designed for young patients.
Members
of the Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary are volunteers who work to support
the hospital by donating their time to see that patients and visitors have a
pleasant hospital experience.
Cabell Huntington Hospital is a 303-bed academic
medical center located in Huntington. It serves patients from
more than 29 counties in West Virginia, eastern Kentucky and southern Ohio. Opened in 1956, it is a
teaching hospital and is affiliated with MarshallUniversity schools of medicine and
nursing.
