WVNS-TV has confirmed through West Virginia State Police that John Dempsey, the suspect in this week's murder in Logan, has been shot and killed by police.
Officers caught up with Dempsey during a pursuit. Dempsey was eventually shot and killed during an altercation with officers in the Man area of Logan County. Another man was found dead in Taplin. Police are investigating to see if Dempsey had any involvement.
This story started back on Tuesday evening when West Virginia State Police and Logan Police surrounded a home on Stratton Street in Logan. That is where they found the body of 88-year-old Grover Morrison. Morrison was well known in the community and had spent years working in the banking industry.
Investigators almost immediately named John Dempsey as the suspect in the murder. A short time later, they found Morrison's vehicle abandoned in the RiteAid parking lot near Man. They believed that Dempsey was in the Man area.
Tuesday night and Wednesday law enforcement officers from several agencies combed the area looking for Dempsey. They followed up on multiple leads from the public but none of them panned out.
But Thursday night, Dempsey re-surfaced leading police on a chase. It all ended Thursday night when troopers shot and killed Dempsey.
