Women who go through menopause early because of surgery may be at increased risk of memory and thinking problems.

The study presented at the American Academy of Neurology's annual meeting looked at more than 1,800 women.

Researchers found women who had both ovaries removed before natural menopause had a faster decline in long term memory and thinking abilities.

Women on longer hormone replacement therapies had slower declines.
