The Charleston Area Alliance's  Elevations Professional Women's Network is looking ahead at what is sure to be a hot topic this legislative session: education.

Patricia Kusimo, president of The Education Alliance, will speak at the next Elevations luncheon, scheduled for noon Feb. 6 at the Holiday Inn in South Charleston. Kusimo will talk about the education audit that was released last year and how to enhance education for the state's children.

Kusimo has been a classroom teacher, an associate college professor, an educational researcher, a business owner, an author and a professional developer. When needed, she has worn the hats of community activist, impromptu legislative lobbyist, tutor, mentor and vocal advocate in order to improve the education of young people in West Virginia, especially African American and low-income children.

Kusimo graduated with bachelor's degree in mathematics from Hampton University, a master's degree in education from Pepperdine University and a doctoral degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University.

The event begins at 11:45 a.m. with check-in and informal networking, followed by lunch at noon. Reservations are $30 for members and $40 for non-members through Jan. 31. Prices increase by $10 for registrants after that date.
