Virginia posted record production of soybeans, peanuts and cotton in 2012.
The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says soybean production last year was estimated at 24.4 million bushels, up 11% from 2011. The yield averaged a record 42 bushels per acre.
Peanut production is estimated at 84 million pounds, up 37% from the year before. The average per-acre production of 4,200 pounds is 100 pounds higher than the mark set in 2011.
And cotton production is estimated at 200,000 bales, a 23% increase. The average yield of 1,129 pounds per acre is 453 pounds higher than the record set in 2011.
The estimated corn production of 36.1 million bushes was a 10% drop from 2011, while both flue-cured and burley tobacco production was higher.
