A 20-page workbook – available at no charge -- filled with entertaining exercises for various language skill levels based on real-life examples of travel to hostels in Germany -- was just published for teachers of German in American high schools and other institutions.
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 17, 2013
German teachers at US schools and institutions now have a free tool for creating real-life based lessons in their classes: a 20-page booklet that features exercises and ideas for language lessons under the topic “Travel in Germany.” The workbook was published by the US office of non-profit DJH City-Hostels in Cologne & Düsseldorf – part of the German Youth Hostel Association Rhineland, an association of 35 hostels, representing 3 hostels in Cologne and 1 in Düsseldorf. It was introduced at the 2012 ACTFL Conference in Philadelphia in November to rave reviews.
The workbook focuses on an aspect of travel interesting for many students: planning a trip to and staying at a hostel in Germany. The inspiration for the new teaching material came during DJH’s participation in the 2011 ACTFL. “German teachers told us they teach about hostels all the time, and then asked for our marketing materials to use in the class room. So we developed a new piece that features hostels and teaches German based on real-life situations around travel needs,” says Rainer Perry, Marketing & Sales Manager North America.
Exercises include word associations, text analysis, navigating a city map, giving directions, and planning a train trip in Germany. The material was developed by Volker Langeheine, a 30-year veteran of teaching German in accordance with AATG (American Association of Teachers of German) standards. DJH City-Hostels in Cologne & Düsseldorf is a preferred partner of AATG.
