Superintendent gives insight into precautionary school closures before Snowfall

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH COUNTY -

Raleigh and most counties in Southern West Virginia canceled school sessions Thursday.

That decision was made hours before any snow showed up.

Superintendent Jim Brown said being proactive with children's safety on the roads is always Raleigh County's top priority.

"It just wasn't worth taking the risk to take our students in and to put our drivers out on the roads," Brown said.

He attributed factors such as percentages of amount and duration of snowfall into the decision to close school.

At this time there is no word yet on school closings for tFriday.
