Traffic is bumper to bumper in the southbound lanes of Interstate 77 as travelers deal with snow and ice from a winter storm that moved through southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 17.

The West Virginia Division of Highways traffic website wv511.org shows that traffic is still moving slowly at the Princeton exit (Exit 9).  You can see the view from their traffic camera.  The camera at mile marker 4.5 shows clear sailing in the Northbound lanes, and the southbound lanes now seem to be flowing normally.

According to officials from the West Virginia Turnpike authority the traffic back-up was caused by seven different tractor-trailers which had jack-knifed along the road.

Officials continue to advise people to stay off the roads unless they need to be out.  Wet roads could become black ice as the temperatures fall overnight.  Watch for updates from the StormTracker weather team on what to expect in the coming hours.
