Snow tires encouraged for 2013 snowfall

PRINCETON -

With mother nature sending some winter weather our way, folks in the mountain state are preparing for the storm.

This includes getting your car!  Drivers are encouraged to learn more about snow tires to make snow drives a little safer.  It is important to note that drivers are encouraged by West Virginia Department of Transportation to stay off the roads if they are able too.

But if someone does have to venture out in a snowstorm, getting the right tires is a good piece of advice. Our 59 News crews stopped by Barker's Tires in Princeton to find out more about snow tires. Our crews interviewed the owner Jackie Barker to learn more.

"Snow tires are made out of a different compound than all season tires. The colder the temperature gets an all season tire doesn't get soft like a snow tire so they stay soft no matter what the temperature is," Jackie Barker, Owner of Barker's Tires said.

Barker said their business usually increases when snow is in the forecast. He said they typically get two deliveries of tires everyday.  He said drivers should plan ahead and not wait until the last minute to purchase snow tires. Barker said snow tires must come off by April.
