Fayette County cracks down on under-age liquor sales

Posted: Updated:

An under-aged alcohol sales sting yielded several violations at various retail stores across Fayette County.

Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies teamed up with an agent of the West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Commission on Friday, Jan. 11 to find out if thirty-two stores would sell alcohol to a person who was under-age.

Seven of the locations were caught in the act.  They were the Ansted Shell Store, Dorsey's Hogtails, New River Foodland and Sherry's in Hico, Drifter's Bar and the Cold Spot in Glen Jean, and Sam's Place in Mount Hope.

"Selling alcohol to under-aged minors is entirely unacceptable, and we are always pleased to work with the WV ABC in efforts to deter this illegal activity," said Sheriff Steve Kessler. "These alcohol stings are performed several times per year in Fayette County, and are always conducted in cooperation with the State's ABC agents".

The clerks of each of the respective violating stores were ticketed by the Deputies when the sales were made.

These violations are under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department and the WV ABC.
