MORGANTOWN -

Ruby Memorial Hospital's recent revisions to its visitor policies are in effect to prevent a flu outbreak.

It said visitors are now limited to two per patient. Also, visitors who have flu-like symptoms 24 hours prior to their visit is discouraged from coming to the hospital. Finally, anyone under the age of 12 should not visit patients in the hospital.

Visitors need to check in and get a visitors pass in the East Lobby.

"We've been lucky, in that we haven't had a huge spike in flu cases, but during flu season, we know that there are a few things that we can do to try to limit the spread of flu to our patients, to our visitors, to our staff and to the community at large. And this is one of those things we thought might be beneficial," said Dr. Ron Pellegrino

Doctors want to remind people the best way to protect yourself is by getting a flu shot. The flu vaccination is still being given at WVU Urgent Care, Outpatient, WVU Cheat Lake Physicians and Sleeth Family Medicine Center.

If you are suffering from flu-like symptoms and need to come to the emergency room, the staff there will help you. The changes are only for visiting patients.
