Shawnee Carnett and Lydia Powell represented the Concord University women's indoor track and field team in fine fashion this weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational and the Marietta Open. Carnett broke school records in the 400-meters and the 1,000-meters while Powell set a new personal best time in the 500-meters.

Competing in Blacksburg, Va. at the Virginia Tech Invite, Carnett started her weekend on Friday by clocking a time of 2:55.15 in the 1,000-meters to finish in ninth place and break her own school record, which she previously set in 2010 (3:00.76).

She concluded her time at Virginia Tech Saturday in the 400-meters, completing the race in 57.87 seconds. The time was good enough to place 11th and just missed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 57.70 seconds. However, the mark was more than enough to break her previous school record of 58.45 seconds (2010) in the event.

Meanwhile at the Marietta Open, Powell recorded a pair of top-three finishes in the 500-meters and the 200-meters. She placed second in the 500 with a personal best time of 1:22.72 and third in the 200 at 28.42 seconds.

Concord track and field will be back in action Jan. 25-26 at the Liberty Open.
