BECKELY -
We've had mild weather lately, but that's about to change in the coming days. Some arctic air is headed our way.
Old man winter is predicted to pound southern West Virginia with an arctic blast. Folks in the area say they aren't looking forward to the seven degree weather.
"Wow, Seven Degrees that's really cold," Tyson Redding of Georgia said.
"Wear a coat, bundle up and don't go outside," Kelsey Edwards of Beaver said.
So folks in our area are preparing to bundle up, but have they given a thought to winterizing their homes? Both Redding and Edwards said no.
But staff members at Childers Enterprises said the phones have been ringing off the hook with callers anticipating the polar plunge. Technicians said preventative maintenance is key.
"We come out, we check the motors for you, make sure your filters are clean mainly just getting us out there to make sure your system is operating the way it should," Ted Ennis, Technician with Childers Enterprises said.
Ennis said some warnings signs your heating system is working too hard is a sudden and dramatic loss of heat. He warns if that happens to call for help immediately.
Other actions people can take is to make sure their filters are cleaned out and to keep the thermostat at an even level.
