A blast of arctic air that settled in to West Virginia on Monday, Jan. 21 did not put the freeze on crime in Oak Hill.

Police officers from Oak Hill were called to an apartment house at 1440 East Main Street over a trespassing complaint.  The investigation quickly turned from trespassing to murder when they arrived though.  They found Michael Sheet, 46, of Scarbro at the apartment.  He was lying inside and emergency responders were not able to revive him.  Sheets was taken to Plateau Medical Center where he was officially declared dead.

Meanwhile, Oak Hill Police officers who were conducting the investigation arrested Jeffrey Dale Lafferty, 39, of Oak Hill.  Police tell 59News that he lived in the apartment where Sheets' body was discovered.  Lafferty is charged with murder.  He was taken to the Southern Regional Jail where he is being held without bond.

Chief Michael Whisman said he was not able to release any other details on what lead to the murder at this time.  The incident is still under investigation, and 59News will bring you more details as they become available.
